Scott Monument
#1
Victorian Gothic monument to the memory of historical novelist and poet Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832), in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The monument was designed by George Meikle Kemp, a forty-five year old joiner, draftsman, and self-taught architect who had previously submitted a similar design, unsuccessfully, for the Glasgow Cathedral.

Bill Bryson, the travel writer, has described the monument as looking like a "gothic rocket ship".
