The Town Cried Murder by Leslie Ford
#1
The story: A man is murdered following the announcement of his engagement to a young girl, from an old family in historic Williamsburg.

The review: Wonderfully written; full of mystery and suspense, interjected with humor (see my post under 'Funny Gothics'); has all the elements of a Gothic - starting with an arranged marriage with money on one side and old family heritage on the other, jealous lovers aplenty, busybody friends and relatives, and greed. Some memorable characters make for a fun read.
