Upon reading the post by scoobertina in the previous thread the question occurs to me -- Why is it that gothic romance appeals to its readers?

because gothic romance is a style of heroic prose and verse narrative that was popular in the aristocratic circles of High Medieval and Early Modern Europe. And up to now it is striking the newest generations.
