Dead or Alive? - tamtam - 09-25-2007

You see certain names crop up in reference to Gothic romances/novels. How many of these people are still alive?

Victoria Holt must be dead. She wrote quite a few books but I don't recall seeing any new titles recently. Mary Stewart may still be alive - I found a few titles that were relatively new ("The Stormy Petrel" and "Thornyhold"). Does anyone know?

How about other authors like Dorothy Eden? Virginia Coffman? etc.?

You can try looking the authors up in Wikipedia. Wikipedia would have their birth date, and if they have died, their death date.

For example, it might say:

John McLiving (April 14, 1923 - )

or:

Martin McDead (April 14, 1923 - September 14, 1985)

That's how I usually try to figure it out.

You have to be careful with finding everything on the internet, including this site. Believe me, I found many misleading information before. There is no saying that whoever posted on Wikipedia would be an authority. I was hoping that we could have something on this forum that would include information like this and use this site as a reference. There may be reference books in the library, which I trust more, but I can not get to the library as often as I would like and there are hundreds of authors to look up.

Victoria Holt died in the 90's. Mary Stewart is still living, but she is very old and I don't think she is writing anymore. She is very reclusive. Same with Phyllis Whitney. Virginia Coffman died a few years ago.
