Thought some of you might be interested in this rare interview from the 1970s, done by the BBC.

Thank you for posting this. Rare indeed, and wonderful.

It's interesting that she describes Manderley as a blend of Menabilly (her childhood home) and Milton Hall (a large estate in Cambridgeshire), and adds [paraphrasing] that the movie version of Rebecca turned Manderley into "an enormous Gothic mansion" that wasn't at all like Menabilly or "the lovely Milton".

Judging from pictures of Menabilly and Milton Hall, it's certain that both are grand, venerable houses. But in terms of atmosphere, do I daresay that Hollywood improved upon Ms. Du Maurier's vision?
