I agree! A LOT of spam is slipping through unmonitored to the forum. I emailed the list owner about this, but have had no response. I'm afraid many will leave the list if this keeps up.

What sort of spam do you mean? Spam postings on the forum, or spam sent via PM? Thanks!

Are you aware your IP, email and username are used by spammers? Could this be a coincidence?

I've sent an email to webmaster@gothicromanceforum.com containing attachments illustrating this problem. If I've sent it to the wrong email address, please let me know.

I believe these are spam postings, not private messages.

Interesting. I replied to both your emails about 45 minutes since.

Here's the crux of the response. We do have some spam auto-detection in place. However, it is far from flawless. Indeed, in the past detection routines have sandboxed postings from legitimate users; we lost at least one user because his/her account was flagged (and hence his/her posts were with-held for moderation) due to action taken by the auto-detection software. As a result of this, we relaxed the spam filters a little. Everything seemed to be fine until recently when there seems to have been an upsurge in attention from bots and spammers.

I'll re-tighten the filters and we will continue to seek a happy medium. Thanks for your input.
