The Fortune Hunters by Joan Aiken

Annette Sheldon recuperates in a medieval town in England after suffering from illness resulting from losing her father and winning a football lottery. She suffers periods of amnesia/black outs. The plot involves people who are after her money and a murder is committed during one of her black-outs.

I believe this is the first Joan Aiken Gothic I've read. It's OK. The writing style is easy to follow and the pace is good. The story builds up some suspense and the characterization is good. I'm not overly enthusiastic about it because it was completely predictable. Perhaps I should say that as the reader, I did not feel the author was trying to fool me. It was very straightforward and the reader knows everything that is happening and probably why, whereas the heroine does not. I'd give it a "C".
