1764 The castle of Otranto - Attagirl - 06-10-2007

This novel written by English author Horace Walpole, was said to be the novel that brought about the invention of the Gothic genre. This novel does have the elements of horror and romance.

If you are new to genre then this is a good novel to check out. It can be hard to find but is well worth it.

I just finished this book. Yes, I can see how it set the scene for Gothic novelists but the story reads more like a tragedy than a romance. In some ways, it reminds me of Shakespeare, although his were plays.

I´m now reading this book and I like it. As tamtam has said, it sometimes reminds me of Shakespeare... Let´s see how it ends!
